Pompeii Pompeii Pompeii Pompeii Pompeii!

That’s Matthew’s Pompeii song. He’s been singing it for about 3 months now… He’s been so excited about coming here that I was a little concerned that it might disappoint! But I shouldn’t have worried!

Yesterday we started in the Naples archeological museum, where many of the artifacts from Pompeii are kept. We didn’t have long there, but what we managed to see was brilliant. The mosaics in  particular were amazing, so detailed as many were made with stones only a few millimetres squared.

The feathers on the chickens were stunning! The wall paintings were also beautiful though it always seems a shame that neither are still in situ.

After dropping the bags at our hotel, we ended up missing the last bus up Vesuvius, but since we’d all been so keen to go up we decided it was worth the taxi fare. This was a very good decision!

We finished the day with a yummy tea in the garden of Viv and Benjamin’s guesthouse, which had a play area for the boys to enjoy while we cooked.

This morning started with croissants on our balcony overlooking Vesuvius!

This was important preparation for the 8 hours we spent in the archeological site! Goodness, what a site! I’m not sure where to start with pictures! Here is a selection!!

After all that there was just time for a very well earned meal at a lovely restaurant before it was time to go home to bed! The boys were asleep before I even turned out the lights!!
